The problem is that Americans just can’t believe their eyes. They cannot fathom the combination of cynicism, naiveté, arrogance and ignorance that dragged us into this quagmire, and they’re in a deep state of denial about it.

How true. I, for one, was for the invasion, albeit with the UN and not unilaterally. Why? Because the entire administration was so sure that Saddam had WMDs, and would use them - remember the specter of the 'mushroom cloud'? Also, they were sure that Al Qaeda was working hand-in-hand with Saddam.

I see now that we were lied to. By who? Was Bush also lied to? Possibly. But, still, someone wanted this war. The PNAC group? Probably.

So, what now? We've been screwed, and there's no easy way out of it. Begging to the UN for legitimacy, working like hell to keep our troops safe and rebuild the country, paying through the nose for generations to come. As they say, it's a big sh*t sandwich, and we all have to take a bite...

Clinton may have screwed Monica, but Bush has screwed us all...
