Academic Integrity
1. The problem is lack of academic integrity rather than academic corruption.
2. Corruption is usually referred to corrupt acts of government officials by abusing their power or postion, and taking bribes or kickbacks, etc.
3. Forging one's education backgroud or experience is a fraud.
4. Plagiarism, as Martin L. King, Jr. committed, is a fraud.
5. Distorting a research data or result is a fraud.
6. Affixing one's name on a research paper without work is being practiced by famous American scientists or professors who hired graduate students to do the research at low wages.
7. Making false advertisement is a fraud.
8. There are more frauds of infinite varieties committed in America than the stars in the sky. China must stop fraud of any kind.

What could you expect in a country with such a large inequality. My cousins who work and live in the countryside hardly earn RMB300 per month whereas those in big cities such as in Beijing and Shanghai, Children of party bosses earn 10 to 20 times more. What the coutryside folk get is promises after promises for example the promised tap and clean water that never arrives. Promises to the rural folk continues to be made by the central authorities. That is why the country folk look so indifference and corruption at high levels is part of daily life in a society where they exercise little power to change things. ----------------------

I think it is a good thing to riase the issues concerning un-ethical behaviours in the scentific community. Two issues are important:
- educating the scentific community about ethics and the consequences of un-ethical behaviours
- enforcement of rules and laws against un-ethical behaviour; professional associations can help to regulate themselves ------------------------

Academic corruption is one of the most important issues for Chinese people and China to resolve. It will impact the future of China especially its economy. Thus it will affect the quality of life of Chinese people. Remember, brain power is much superior than military power.

If the ivory tower dwellers in academia in China is full of all kinds of stupid corruption, how can you expect such institutions produce honest, high-standard graduates ??? The Ministry of Education needs total reform, all the academic institutions need total reform. The party cadres should not be school administrators. Academic qualificiations need to be stricly checked.
