Ish, Sorry to take so long to respond, but we have intermittent PC glitches.
It is folly to try to debate a rabid believer in every single word of the Bible. Can't they understand that nothing done by man is perfect, and the Bible was, definitely written by men. There are many good things in the Bible, but the blind belief in the method of creation, as depicted there, is IMO not one of them. Since the supreme being, called God, with the power He has, would He have molded this Earth with his bare hands?? Did he use those same hands to create all of the other objects in the universe?? Since he could have just snapped his fingers to cause a man to appear, would he have dabbled in the mud to make one out of clay?? Although the Ten Commandments are a great influence for good in the world, if God had carved them in stone, when Moses went down the mountain, and found the people worshiping the golden calf idol, would Moses have dared to smash those tablets, fashioned by God's hand, to pieces on a rock?? If God really meant the commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Kill", why would he then give Moses a detailed list of peoples to, not only kill, but eliminate completely?? Would God contradict himself??
Paul may have some good points, but he was also a radical. He never, really, knew Jesus. The only person that witnessed that "so called" incident of the brilliant light that changed him into a believer, was Paul himself. Would anyone, today, believe such a story without more evidence than that??
The Bible has suffered from too much tampering by human beings from the start of the project of writing it began. I believe in a Supreme power that brought the elements, and ignition, together to cause the universe to be formed, and person experienced has convinced me that there is an unseen benefactor at work in the world. If that force had not yanked me away from the brink of hell, I would not be here today. I just cannot believe parts of the Bible that are just too far fetched. |
