Well, I don't go in for the conspiracy theory that Bush, Cheney, or other administration officials knew about 9/11 specifically, and somehow allowed and/or profited. I think the more likely scenerio is that they were warned but ignored it, or didn't take it seriously enough. As far as the energy crisis and deregulation, yes, I believe that the Bush/Cheney group believed that California needed to just 'settle out'. They are true believers of 'free market economics', believing that the market prices would come down naturally. I don't know why they couldn't see (or maybe believe) that companies actually act in their own self interest, which is the profit motive, and would manipulate the market. An expensive lesson, one that Bush didn't have to pay but that we in California will be paying on for a number of years to come.
