Political contributions have little to do with anti-trust cases when a competitor can sway the Justice Dept. to investigate. Those who think that political contributions guarantee that you won't be touched by the Justice Dept. obviously don't know much when it comes to politics. MSFT made significant contributions to the Democrat party and still were blocked by Anne Bingham from the purchase of Intuit not more than a year later. When it comes to anti-trusts, perception is everything... reality many times means nothing. Mr. Gates is a bit more savvy than to plunk down 150 million for anti-trust insurance but don't think it wasn't a component of the decision. MSFT has used the Apple example before when defending against anti-trust investigations.
