Don, Re: If memory serves me correctly, Turkey got a big chunk of change before the war also. If my memory serves me correctly, the Bushies offered Turkey a sizable bribe in order to allow the Fourth Mech. to cross Turkey and create a pincer from the north of Baghdad. Once the Turkish parliament put the kibosh on this scheme, I believe the loan guarantee offers disappeared, until this revival of a trade of money for cannon fodder. Frankly, it's a dog's breakfast to try to send the Turks into Iraq. Clearly the Bremer wonks have taken leave of their senses. All informed Iraqis remember and resent seven centuries of Turkic/Ottoman repression.
