LB,
Bush seems unconcerned about the current closeness of the polls between him and clark and even dean. I think i know why. He is where his dad was a full 14 months before before the election, not on election day as was his dad. He fully realizes how dramatic the shifts in the polls can be based on results.
On the economy he has greenspan, congressional spending, falling oil prices and now the G7 on his side to guaranttee the recovery. Imagine 6 months out when employment kicks in as well.
Now for iraq--the great unknown. Personally i think things are getting better although we were unprepared for the extent of the opposition in the sunni triangle. Again imagine 6 months out, when terror attacks are minimized, saddam is in custody and the move toward representative government and economic recovery are further along.
Now gentlemen start your polling and see how dean fares with independents, and whether clark's inablility to stick to a position starts to bite. The dems only hope then would be to nominate a Lieberman and hope that he, running not as bush lite, but as bush better, begins to catch on with independents and is acceptable with dean voters who might then be off to nader, naderland. Mike
