It's not a matter of Polycarp being infallible. It simply goes to the veracity of your claims. If what you say is true then those who were there and were directly taught by a disciple should have known about it, yet they continued to believe in the future return of Christ, This is a glaring hole in your theory and cannot just simply be dismissed as you tend to do. How is it that you know more than the people who were there and were instructed directly by the Apostles?
Matthew 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
This was accomplished when they witnessed the transfiguration and also Christ's post resurrection appearances. Did the Apostles taste death after they saw the kingdom of God? So then do you think there is death in the Kingdom?
"Son of man coming in his kingdom = second coming Jesus lied - or was Polycarp wrong?
Of course when the premise of your argument is flawed, your conclusion is also wrong. A greater possibility is that;
Jesus did not lie, Polycarp was not wrong,
Brian is misinterpreting the bible
Your equating the term "coming in his kingdom" with the "second coming" is where you have erred. A simple search of the word Kingdom will reveal that it is used in several different ways. It is sloppy to always read one meaning into the word. Context determines the meaning. |
