i2 Announces Availability of First Modules of i2 Downstream Oil
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 2003--
i2 Demand Manager Downstream Oil successfully prototyped in Shell Oil Products U.S. East Coast/Gulf Coast Region
i2 Technologies, Inc. (OTC:ITWO), a leading provider of end-to-end supply chain management solutions, today announced that the first modules and components of i2 Downstream Oil are now available for purchase. Utilizing the i2 Supply Chain Operating Services (SCOS) architecture, the new modules are i2 Supply Chain Strategist Downstream Oil and i2 Demand Manager Downstream Oil.
i2 Supply Chain Strategist Downstream Oil is designed to enable companies in the oil and gas industry to plan their supply chain networks to meet required service levels at lower capital and operating costs. Through the use of modeling and simulation capabilities, energy and chemical companies can improve their strategic alignment with greater foresight as to how capital allocation and policy decisions will impact supply chain operations. i2 Demand Manager Downstream Oil can allow users to produce accurate forecasts of customer demand, which can then be used to synchronize manufacturing and distribution activities. This synchronization can lead to improved sales levels, reduced inventories, and lower distribution and fulfillment costs.
i2 also announced that i2 Demand Manager Downstream Oil has been successfully prototyped in the East Coast/Gulf Coast region of Shell Oil Products U.S. and is planned to be rolled out to users over the coming months. The solution is also being implemented in the Oceania region of Shell Oil Products East and the Rhine region of Shell Europe Oil Products. i2 Supply Chain Strategist Downstream Oil and i2 Demand Manager Downstream Oil are the first in a planned suite of industry-specific supply chain solutions that are being jointly developed and marketed by i2 and Shell Global Solutions International B.V. for the downstream oil industry.
"The oil industry has always been driven by the supply of crude oil. Given the current business climate, that simply has to change," said Carmine Falcone, vice president for Manufacturing & Supply at Shell Oil Products U.S. "The key to improving business operations within the downstream oil industry is to optimize the complex network of manufacturing, distribution and market-related activities that drive the downstream oil value chain. We believe that the work we are doing in terms of process redesign and the implementation of a supply chain solution will make this improvement a reality."
"As the industry continues to experience increased market volatility, leading energy and chemicals companies are revisiting their supply chain practices to find further opportunities to improve customer services, achieve operational efficiencies and capture bottom line savings," said Amir Kazmi, vice president and general manager for i2's Global Energy & Chemicals business unit. "The objective of the i2 Downstream Oil suite is to integrate and improve these business operations by optimizing the complex network of refining, distribution and trading activities that drive the downstream oil value chain."
The initial Downstream Oil modules provide the foundation for downstream oil companies to develop their demand driven supply chain transformation programs. Planned subsequent releases of i2 Downstream Oil would complete a fully integrated, decision support suite that spans the supply chain from end customer demand through crude oil acquisition and supply to refineries.
