grace, if there were no social programs for the poor (many of whom have their background square in the ravages of slavery), you may well be dead instead of missing a car.

in that case, i'll bet you'd support the programs, right?

but we'll never know.

i agree there is a better solution than the current one. however, i don't believe your solution is better.

nor do i believe it is rational. a rational approach wouldn't "major in the minors." eg, a rational approach would start with "corporate welfare," which costs this country much more money than poverty reduction welfare.

what would you want to happen if you and your 9 month old kid were broke with no roof on your head, no education, abusive parents who mistreated you and distorted your world view... would you sit there and *understand* as your child starved to death... or froze to death...

would you be cool with that?
