Are you talking about French leaders or American leaders? Every one of those charges can be thrown as easily at either. In both cases the actual motivations are a bit more complicated than the critics would like to believe. Certainly the French are concerned with money, business, and gaining advantages for their companies. So are the Americans. That’s not the only factor in the picture in either case. Reducing these matters to whatever simplicity conforms to our prejudices is not a policy that will lead anyone to understand anything, whether the simplistic criticism is directed at the US or at France.
