What's going on now should be called "police action", which makes your comparison with police death rates particularly of interest.

What a Truman Democrat you are!!....

Police action?? It's a war!!

They tried to call Korea a "police action", but to the troops on the ground, it was a war in which 50,000 of their fellow soldiers were killed...

And to those soldiers on the ground in Iraq, they know they are fighting a war, even if currently in a limited form, as they mop up remaining resistance, and deal with any foreign infiltrators.

Even the Iraqis know that it's not a police action.. That's why they are expediting the creation of their civil defense batallions, rather than focusing on SWAT teams to maintain order.

And Carl, you can hide behind relatively recent definitions such as "operations other than war", but that does not necessarily apply to situations where war was waged against a regime and resistance continues. OOTW includes peace-keeping and humanitarian assistance missions as well..

The fact is that we're in a War against terrorist organizations and the regimes that support and control them. And such a war does NOT require that it be waged against an entire nation, but the government itself.

And in this particular case, the US is currently involved in LIC in Iraq, after standing down from HIC.

Internationally, the US is engaged in SO/LIC.

But it's ALL still classified as conflict, which is a prerequisite for being at war..

After all, any fool should know that war is the waging of armed conflict against an enemy.

And that's exactly what we're doing in Iraq, and throughout the world.
