SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade®) (Nasdaq: BRCD - News), the world's leading provider of infrastructure solutions for Storage Area Networks (SANs), announced today that it has been awarded a Computerworld Innovative Technology Award. The Innovative Technology Awards program is conducted annually by Computerworld, the Voice of IT Management. The awards honor leading-edge technology that provides measurable business value to end-user organizations. Vendors are nominated for consideration by information technology end users that do not produce or sell technology. Nominees for the awards are then surveyed about their technology innovations, and a panel of outside experts and Computerworld editors reviews the surveys and chooses 30 winners in 10 categories.

"This year's awards are evidence that innovation is alive and well in the IT industry," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "But enterprise users have made it plain that innovation also has to drive toward the greater goal of supporting big-picture business needs. Delivering measurable value is no longer an option. Our editors and our readers believe that this year's winners have all proved that."

Jay Kidd, Brocade Vice President of Product Management, said that the award reaffirms the business and IT value of Brocade storage area networks. "We are passionate about creating SAN environments that help to simplify SAN management and that deliver a great return on investment. The U.S. Air Force 45th Space Wing, who nominated us for this award, is a great example of the advantages to this approach. Using a Brocade SAN, they reduced their data backup time from 14 hours to two hours, and expect to recoup the cost of their SAN technology investment through server consolidation and reducing the cost of storage management."
