I only found out about it by accident. We get a British news show on local cable. I don't usually watch it, but I was looking for a soccer score (we all have our little obsessions) and got a report on this. The figures were pretty horrendous. Apparently a lot of roads are quite narrow, and also used by pedestrians and cyclists, and the number of people getting hit is wildly high. Alcohol is often a factor, and a lot of the drivers doing the hitting are young.
