Dirty chimneys are not on the agenda. It's about acid rain and the costs of doing something serious about it.

John,
I have real bad news.
Most Acid rain begins in a chimney and the firebox under the chimney. The way to control it is by improving the chimney. Most of the rest of acid rain comes from tailpipes. Do you have a catalytic converter on your lawn mower yet?

As I recall about 1/2 comes from burning coal for electricity. The rest comes from your fireplace and other burnings.

I think we should disallow fireplaces in lower priced homes. Poor people do not pay enough taxes to help with the clean-up you want. Lets also make them trade in their power lawn mowers for push mowers. Nukeing Detroit would help a lot too. But then your housekeeper couldn't get to work.

Like I said it is a complicated problem. Electricity saves many more lives than producing it takes. Kinda like Polio vaccine, except electric power is also the fundamental basis for industrialization.

Isabella deposited much rain but little else locally. We were in Coeur d'Alene and missed it all. The Eastern part of NC is another story. One million still without power. National Guard and Army reserves are on duty to just help people. I hear the Outer Banks are in very rough shape from Ocracoke and Hatteras to the North. The eye of the storm passed right over the area where you vacationed a coupla years ago.

Thanks for asking.
