obviously the Iraqi's are delighted Saddam is gone

and I'm sure most Iraqi people are torn between feeling 'safe' with the American presense/protection while it gives them the opportunity to set up their own government and the radical elements messages that the US will stay, will rob them of their oil, will make them a vassal/puppet country

you only have to look to Japan, West Germany to see what American occupation has resulted in - strong democratic countries taking their place in the world - countries who stand up and put their own interests first, as they should - if we don't like their stance, we too then have every right to object, voice our differing opinion and boycott products

the deal is France didn't object as much to following UN sanctions as their fear of losing the money they made by being financially in bed with Iraq

as to visiting France, I know of only one American friend who said they would go back to France, an art lover - all others have said the French are rude, don't like Americans and make it very clear they don't - why would you go back?

though the French did help us in our American revolution, they did it more to vex and weaken Britain [their enemy] than to promote revolution - I do think Lafayette sincerely was a friend to the Americas [he was later denounced as a traitor by France and fled the country, nothing to do with the American revolution but their revolution] - btw, as a side note, our revolution worked the first time, theirs didn't

America has a history of loving peoples of the world - they in fact immigrated to this country in millions, built this nation and are living proof of how we view man, no matter what his race or religion
