Clinton was never convicted of anything. He was cleared of all charges. He was impeached for fibbing about his sex life. Because he was on the stand it was perjury, but what else was he supposed to do? Take the Fifth? Has Bush eevr told the truth about his coke use or going AWOL? This all had nothing to do with national policy, anything criminal or anything having to do with US interests. It was all just a political witch hunt. If the Dems tried it on Bush the GOP would be howling foul. Meanwhile Bush and his people lie all the time about really important stuff which costs US lives and hundreds of billions of dollars. Put 9 out of 10 men on the stand and ask them if they've ever cheated on their wives and they will try to fudge on it. That's just human nature. Talk about living in glass houses. Nobody confesses that kind of thing voluntarily. Clinton had a personal flaw and probably should have taken the 5th, but the whole impeachment affair was a sordid ugly mess brought to us by the right-wingers. And he wasn't corrupting youth, Monica came after him. Also, this kind of thing happens all the time in DC on both sides of the aisle. Doesn't make it right, but that's just the way it is. I know a women who boasted about giving 40 congressmen BJ's. Even if she's exaggerating it shows you something. Clinton never did anything criminal or any type of high crime worthy of impeachment. He just told a white lie. Even Arnold said he was ashamed to be a Republican then. They couldn't defeat Clinton at the ballot box so they went after his sex life. Pure and simple. His one achilles heel. And Starr was not an INDEPENDENT prosecutor at all. He was a GOP character assassin trying to force false confessions out of witnesses, destroying lives as he went, hurting our country. The way he put McDougal in prison for refusing to sign a false confession was really criminal, much worse than anything Clinton ever did.
