uw--Is there truth the the St Peterburg FL article that our GI's who are injured and hospitalized have to pay for their food while in the hospital?

Karen,
I see you already have three good answers.

FWIW, I add my two cents. I speak with some experience having had a 3 1/2 month and an 18 month Army hospital stay.

First, soldiers do not pay for food while hospitalized.
Second, in theory, soldiers never pay for food.

Third, the Army either has to provide three meals daily or pay you to buy them (Either way, the Army provides.).
That can become ridiculous. For example, at Ben Het, located half way between Dak To and the Laotian border, things were too hot for regular food deliveries, so the entire A Team got subsistence allowances (about $35 a month then). Only one problem...as I told a 3 star...there ain't no grocery stores out here.

Any soldier drawing subsistence allowance in Iraq is probably in the same boat we were, and would no doubt prefer the Army diet to the cash.
