This is probably of no relevance to this thread, but here goes anyway. Seems interesting to me, though possibly not to any one else.
About three years ago I developed a condition that was diagnosed as non-specific colitis, whatever that means. It was not positively debilitating, but on occasion restricted my ability to go anywhere in the a.m. unless I was in a risk taking mood. I was put on a sulfa-family drug, and then on Asacol, which is ridiculously expensive, especially at my regime of 9 a day. No apparent effect, so I quit wasting money, and decided to live with it.
About six months ago my M.D. decided to try a five day course of pred and Lomotil when I was having a particularly bad period. Instant success.
What's weird is that now when things get annoying, I've found that 1/2 of a 20mg pred (no Lomotil) fixes things almost instantly, and the effect can last for a week or more. I'm aware that dependence on pred can be dangerous, but 10mg of pred every one or two weeks, as far as I've been able to read, is well within the bounds of safety.
Well, there it is. Just thought it might be interesting as an example of a very individual response to a colitis problem that was unresponsive to more traditional (and expensive) regimens. |
