>> Next time, please just simply ask "what the heck is behind Senator Byrd's logic?" <<

Why are we (sorry, remainder of world, ethnocentric here) in Iraq, having our young men and women slaughtered on a daily basis? We are there over the issue of WMD, including biological weapons. What does it cost, per month, to maintain that effort? Approximately $6 billion per month?

That is the budget for the ENTIRETY of the BioShield program. The first year's budget, so that we could thumb our collective nose at future WMD threats instead of allowing our troops to be "bounty hunter" fodder? It is approximately 15% of what it costs to keep our military deployed, as sitting ducks, for ONE MONTH.

For a politician, it's much easier to react to crisis than to prevent it. Even when it costs the lives of young men and women, some can't learn the lesson. Unfortunately, it seems that the U.S. political system selects for those with the least common sense.
