and there's this old Cetus-Chiron kiss of death thing. actually, it was a Cetus thing that infected Chiron after the merge. lousy mid-level management. senior managers had a habit of hiring people who would make them look good, for all of the wrong reasons. the science was designed to get you from one annual report to another, while praying. across the Bay, at Genentech? They were hiring the best scientists available, and telling each one that, if they grabbed something that ran to "product", they'd be a V.P. in no time.

This CTUS/CHIR culture fed (spawned?) a second generation of the "we deserve to be wealthy, as we've founded a biotech and taken it public" type of manager. But I thought that the lineage had gone extinct.
