One friend just reported she spent over 30K on her daughter's wedding. I think this is outrageous.
Not if it was a full blown formal church wedding with reception. We've been pricing wedding gowns recently, don't ask, and quality outfits (you need special undergarments, veil, etc.) run in the $800-1500 range. Plus about $500 each for bridesmaids dresses. Six bridesmades plus a flower girl and you're up to $5,000 just for clothing. The reception food with drinks can easily run $50 a plate, and that's not extravagant. 200 guests and you're at $10,000. Plus rental of the hall. Flowers. Transportation. Band. If the bridesmaids come from out of town you have to pay to put them up. Invitations can be gotten at a reasonable cost if you're willing to put up with cheap, but if you want full engraving on cotton bond, it's bucks. Then the photographer and videographer, if you get qualified professionals, are easily $3,000. And there is lots more. $30,000 is certainly a cost, but it's by no means outrageous for a full blown church wedding.
And the groom and his family have their costs, too. You aren't getting off cheap, you know. Probably another $10,000 and maybe lots more depending on the rings. Plus, of course, the honeymoon.
Better hope the boys elope! |
