Months ago I was speculating that there was some genetic component that gave non-Chinese some kind of immunity or relative immunity to SARS. Nobody in Japan got it, nobody in any neighboring country, e.g., Russia, India, except for countries with Oriental populations. No Japanese got it. Very few from Singapore and Vietnam.

It wouldn't be the first time there was a genetic component to infectious disease. Recall Native Americans and smallpox. Northern Europeans have a relatively high rate of an allele that conveys resistance to HIV that is almost totally lacking in Africans.
