<The problem with Iraq is that it is a "police action", and police actions typically do not end, unless you put in a certain number of police. For a country the size of Iraq, the number of police required is around 500,000 and Bush can't possibly collect that many soldiers.>

Carl, it's a military action. Not a police action. It's the continued military suppression of indigenous people by an occupying country. The Iraqi component could be called a police action, but not the COW component [Coalition of Willing]. Some of the locals would call the Iraqi component the Quisling component.

Isn't the USA exit strategy to not exit, [same as with the half century of occupying forces in Korea, Japan, Germany, and all over the place]? The strategy is to support the equivalent of a political evolution as in South Korea, Japan and Germany so that the USA occupying forces can adopt a very low profile, leaving the locals to run the place.

I suspect the USA has a good chance of succeeding and so far, so good. Personally, I'd rather the NUN take charge, but there's a dearth of imagination so we are stuck with the second best option which is the USA sorting it out.

<...if the whole purpose of the endeavor was to find WMDs that were figments of the fevered imagination of the administration, it becomes impossible to get the American public to sign their kids away.> Didn't Wolfowitz say that WMDs were just a bureaucratic reason and not really the reason or even a major part of the reason for the Iraq invasion?
