From Japan, there's the headline SDF going to Iraq by year-end at behest of U.S. and the "fine print". The Air Self-Defense Force is mulling plans to deploy five C-130 transport planes to ferry water, food and other supplies to Iraq from neighboring nations and between Baghdad and other parts of the country. Government officials say ASDF troops would likely only face gunfire during landings and takeoffs. Up to 100 Ground Self-Defense Force personnel will probably be tasked with helping in the construction of social infrastructure in cities in northern Iraq.
