HELP!!!
Running WIN 2000 Pro with all critical updates and NAV2003, SpyGuard, Spyblaster, new version of Trojan Hunter done with clean install, AdAware, SpyBot, RegCleaner, ZoneAlarm Pro Ver. 4, PurgeIE Pro and BOClean... all latest versions and updated daily. SpyBot is "immunized" and TrojanHunter Guard is enabled. All was well until yesterday morning when I booted my computer to connect to the internet using a Mindspring (Earthlink) dialup and then an ATTglobal (business service) dialup. Using an external US Robotics Courier v. Everything 56k modem. Dialed immediately, connected immediately, verified name and password immediately... but then took over a minute to "Register Your Computer on the Network" (before I was live and the little computers showed up in the lower right taskbar). Outlook Express and Internet Explorer v.6+ seemed to run fine after that although I noticed a lot of modem activity.... apparently blocked by ZAP. When right clicking the icon on the taskbar to disconnect, almost all the lights on the modem go out, but it takes another minute for the icon to disappear and the modem lights to go back to the off position. It has been happening continuously since then... and I've run multiple scans with all my Antivirus, antitrojan and spyware programs which have all been negative, rebooted (hard & soft), done scandisks (including one with repair system files), but no luck. It still takes a minute to register on the dialup network and another minute to disconnect.
ANYONE, with any suggestions... please?? Would booting with "last good configuration" help... without loosing e-mails and other data?
TIA,
Marty
edit: not using ATT or Earthlink dialers... dialing directly with Windows 2000 Pro dialup internet connection configuration which has not (I don't think) been altered and has always worked well! |
