I am right behind you. The Blogs are full of the Plame/Wilson story. Here is Roger L Simon, the Fiction writer, who's Blog gets a lot of play.

TOO COMPLICATED FOR ME (UPDATED)
The Washington Post this morning is featuring the growing crisis around the outing of Valerie Plame--the wife of former ambassador John C. Wilson IV--as a CIA agent. This illegal revelation was purportedly made (by unnamed White House officials) to punish Wilson for throwing cold water on the theory that Iraq had tried to buy "yellowcake" uranium in Africa. This, as you will recall, was being floated as one of the reasons for War in Iraq, though it was later soft-pedaled.

Okay, so far.... but here's what confuses me. The officials who leaked this story, supposedly to "get" Wilson, did so to Robert Novak who was (still is) an outspoken opponent of the War in Iraq. That's curious. You would think they would leak to a more sympathetic ear, of which there are several.

I'm not saying I understand this. But it is at least possible... in the cloak and dagger world... that the intention here was more to discredit Bush by associating his administration with an obviously illegal activity (revealing the identity of a CIA agent) than to punish Wilson. Repeat: I'm not saying I know. And I'm not... on this one... trumpeting my crime writer credentials as I did when I (correctly, he brags) predicted the looting of the Iraqi National Museum was an inside job. This one is too complex. It calls for John LeCarre (the old version, not the new).

There are other theories on the net linked by AINTNOBADDUDE.

UPDATE: To make myself slightly clearer on a complicated subject--what troubles me in all this is that I don't understand why anyone would risk being convicted for a serios felony just to get revenge on Wilson. It makes no sense to me. Even the Watergate Break-in is reasonable by comparison. Nixon was a paranoid personality obsessively worried about getting elected even when he was way ahead. But the why of this is much more opaque. It doesn't compute, even with Occam's Razor.
