The GST has been the best tax introduced into Canada in years. They stupidly made it too complex, tax on salted peanuts but not unsalted. No tax on raw food but tax on ready to eat from supermarkets. Tax on chips but not cookies. No tax on 6 doughnuts but tax on 5 or less. Put GST on everything, then at least we can get some tax revenue from the cash economy as prostitutes, tradesmen etc shop at super markets. Poor people already get a GST refund, just make that bigger to compensate.

PS I agree with you about gold sales.
