MB, unless written documents can talk, that "whisper" number isn't a whisper number at all - I'm operating under the assumption that T. P. Kurlack's estimate is .70 and the basis for that assumption is:

A. the piece of paper here drapped over my portable radio that to the best of my knowledge is the ML bulletin of 6/24/97 (the one where he trumpted their "6 months earlier than expected" effort on the 64's).

And then a month later guess who was making statements in an EBN article criticizing the guys who are already making the 64's in volume, calling the larger densities "premature", and calling the business models of the guys already there flawed?

B. the recent DJ article of 8/6/97 in which he stated that he did not changed estimates on the companies he covered (and made the great 20% call).

And remember, just because his FY'97 estimate was 1.55 before they reported the quarter ending in May...and...on the 6/24/97 bulletin the estimate appears to be 1.42 - well, that just doesn't count as an estimate change. The number itself may have changed. But the estimate didn't <g>

Why? Well, because when DJ ran a piece on 6/25/97 on the 64Mb comments, it also stated that he did not change his estimate.

Which if you try to logically connect the dots...means that the number can be just about anywhere by now.

So where does that leaves us?

And I think the answer is that when you pay the admission to Kurlackland, it doesn't matter - just hang on and enjoy the ride (and don't eat too much cotton candy news coverage) <g>

Good trading,

Tom
