Ted,

The protesters know that the US is a democracy and is sensitive to public opinion.

Yes, but more of the public opinion of the Americans, rather than someone on Crete.

One thing about these protesters is that the US media generally shows a very sanitized view of them, one where the cookiness and naivity of the vast majority doesn't get shown.

You'll have to be more specific; the quotes and opinions range from reasonable to radical.

Yes, something like "Oppose a plan to dispatch S. Korean combat troops to Iraq" is a reasonable opinion. What caught my attention was the last quote: "I don't believe British and American troops should still be in Iraq. Everyday you hear stories of innocent people being killed — that's not justice." I really wander about the thinking (if any) of someone like this.

There is an election in two years. You may be right but I think the Labour party is like all political parties; they'll can a known vote getter only when they're sure he can't win anymore.......don't you think?

I would generally agree. There is a slight complication in UK, in that they have a 3rd party (which I could never figure out). In absence of the 3rd party, Blair represents the left of center party, the opposition is right of center party. The ones dissatisfied are the ones to the left of Blair (where are they going to go?), which probably makes him more attractive to the center, so I think the situation is a little different than that with Thatcher.
