In 1929 a great depression followed. 2000 was nothing close to that. Dot-coms bombed but most other stocks came back. Even a few dot-coms have survived all right. Then the money went into real estate and we survived. But the current situation is troubling. Continuing loss of jobs and huge mounting debts. Things are not nearly as rosy as some stock prices reflect.
