[SI conundrum]

Norman --

And all who are debating whether to respond to SI's request for authentication. I felt the same when I read their request and then I sat back and debated which was worse --- proving my identity with a cancelled check (acct. number crossed out), or putting up with multiple posters. I sent the voided check.

If it's a problem, why not send a photo copy of your driver's license or passport or even your electricity bill? I'm sure they simply want something that validates that XYZ user is XYZ person in real life. I would even go so far as to guess they just want something with an address or phone number attached so they can eliminate duplications that way.

If nothing else, I'd hope those who don't want to reveal their identity would write to the webmasters and give suggestions for how they might cut down on the multiple entities. I've always supported a person's need not to post an email address because circumstances some times make anonymity necessary.

Few can argue there's a problem and I'd hate to see this forum die simply because a few misuse it for their own warped ends.

I'm too stubborn to give up that easily.

I hope you'll stay --- and Mike and billc and everyone else. Who will straighten me out if you all leave?????

Cheers!

Pat
