Timeshares gaining popularity in China

@@SHENYANG, Oct. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- As more and more Chinese people embark on journeys to domestic and overseas tourist resorts to relax from the grind of daily work, the ownership of timeshares is becoming increasingly popular in China.

@@Timeshares refers to an individual owning the right to use, for a week or longer, an apartment, hotel room or villa on a holiday resort for many years or permanently. Timeshare owners can either visit the accommodation every year or swap through the exchange system for something similar in other parts of the world in another time period.

@@Now there are over six million families owning timeshares worldwide and the number keeps increasing.

@@Timeshares first appeared in China in the 1990s and have been attracting much attention in recent years as Chinese people are taking more vacations and leisure tours.

@@At present, there are over 7,000 star hotels and 12,000 holidayvillas across China.

@@Tourism experts said that popularization of timeshares will notonly increase hotel occupancy but also better serve the increasingly demanding Chinese tourists.
