MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 2003-- CinemaNow Inc., a leader in IP-based video-on-demand distribution and technology, today announced it is a supporting participant in the launch of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004. In conjunction with the launch, CinemaNow has created a unique version of its website experience that allows users to browse, purchase and watch movies on-demand by using their remote control and television set or PC display. "The ability for people to access movies from CinemaNow via a remote control and to play them back on their television or PC has been one of the few remaining hurdles for the success of Internet-based video-on-demand," said Curt Marvis, chief executive officer of CinemaNow. "Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 represents a giant leap forward in transforming the PC into a true entertainment hub and bodes well for the continued rapid growth of both our company and the Internet video-on-demand industry."
The CinemaNow Media Center Edition site has been specifically designed for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 to allow for a fully integrated experience. The unique interface allows users to have on-demand access to CinemaNow's library of more than 1,200 feature films, including such titles as "Die Another Day," "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," "Daredevil" and "Chicago" with the freedom of a remote control. Movies on CinemaNow are available in both downloading and streaming formats, giving users optimum flexibility in how they access and enjoy content. All movies delivered via the CinemaNow Media Center Edition site are available on a Pay-Per-View basis, with CinemaNow's subscription service expected to be available later this fall.
"Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 helps the home PC evolve by delivering advanced computing and broad entertainment capabilities in one device," said Joe Belfiore, general manager of the Windows eHome Division at Microsoft Corp. "We are excited to be working closely with CinemaNow, whose Media Center Edition website features innovative design and content that advances the way consumers enjoy entertainment in their homes."
