China's rural unemployment on the rise.

The number of rural Chinese who need work is increasing by six million every year... this is on top of the 150 million who are currently redundant.

With this in mind, the government is planning to train some 60 million rural job seekers from 2003 to 2010.

In September six ministries launched a training plan to help China's under-educated rural laborers gain professional skills and find jobs in cities.

The Xinhua news agency says with no skills for work other than on farms .. the rural unemployed are expected to face immense difficulties competing for jobs in the cities and towns.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security expects the number of urban unemployed to reach 14 million by the end of 2003.
