I agree, but even more, because the upside of Apple is that it may be split up like ATT. With all the software people on the board, Apple could be split into a software company with substantially high price/sales multiple and the hardware. It'd be like ATT they could concentrate on other turfs. Such a deal could unlock massive value and lead to mergers.

BTW, regarding earlier post. Apple is at 350 Mhz TODAY with an OS that is fully RISC oriented for further speed. So what if Intel comes out next year with 350mhz and a fix to the defects of MMX. By then Motorola/IBM will be at 500 mhz. Technically the pentium is maxed out, and Gates will have to rewrite his code to save it. So Gates is hedging.

Also, sure Apple didn't need the cash. But boy, what "better than free" advertising to boost sales. Remember every day that passes that Apple lives means another day saved for the ultimate transition. WSJ was saying that Apple would die in 1993 or was it 1987?

Sincerely,

Ben
