I think I may have learned something about the mood in this country this morning.

I stepped outside into the parking lot for my office building to see if the tree workers had finished cutting down a Bartlett pear that threatened the parking lot, and ran into Don, who occupies another office. He said, "What's all that commotion about?"

I looked and there were several youngish people in business clothes, including a very good-looking blonde woman in a tight red plastic skirt, who were hurrying across the parking lot and then scrambling up an ivy-covered slope. I stopped the last guy and asked what was up. Over the rail I could see flashing red and blue lights.

"They told us to get out of our building because a bomb was reported," he said. They must have been coming from the building next door. "There's supposed to be a bomb in a taxi in the middle of the street over there."

That's when I realized all these people were headed TOWARDS the supposed bomb. They wanted to see it. I went back and told Don. He said, "Yes, there was a taxi in the middle of the street with its doors open. I just drove past it. It's probably a can of beans with a fuse stuck in it."

I think Americans WANT a disaster. I think they WANT a really huge stock market crash.

As for me, I reasoned that my office building was protected by the bank all those yo-yos wanted to get to the top of so I went back inside.

I have not heard anything further.

Maybe those people would like to take a tour package to Tel Aviv or Baghdad.
