So far, D-Con seems to be our most effecive weapon, but I don't like to use it too much because of our pets.
I never really considered using poison. Partly because I think it's cruel, partly because you never know when I may have another pet on the premises, but mostly because I didn't want the critters dying and rotting inside the walls. I have used only traps.
Since I never in my life had to deal with a mice infestation until a month ago, I'm hardly an expert. A friend recommended the traps I mentioned earlier but I was unable to find them. For some odd reason, both Lowe's and Home Depot had very little stock of mouse traps. He said he had bought his at Home Depot a while back. I went to several of each store and found little selection. I bought some of everything they had so I had some of the old fashioned wooden snap traps, a plastic snap trap, both from Victor, and some live catch traps, also from Victor. I caught one mouse in each. And one that just happened to tumble into a waste basket and couldn't get out. The bait kept disappearing from the wooden ones. The other two would usually be sprung with no catch. The one mouse caught by the plastic snap trap made a bloody mess all over everything. Finally, my friend remembered to bring me one from his stash. It caught a mouse the first night and made no mess. (For a total of five mice.) So I ordered some for both him and me on the internet this morning, the site I posted earlier.
So, I'm hardly an expert but the above is what I've learned. |
