The idea of limiting the Federal Government and returning power back to the states would be a powerful draw to a large segment of society...[while f]ew people would support a party that touted the goals of legalizing drugs and prostitution.

That is, of course, my point. Instead of saying, for example, "We will legalize drugs," I believe we might be better served on several levels by promoting a policy thus: "Because the Constitution names only three crimes within the jurisdiction of the federal government, the federal criminalization of drugs violates it; therefore, each state - or a lower order of government, as decided by the state - will hold a vote on it."

Something along those lines.
