I watched affirmative action from inside IBM. They read the tea-leaves, they counted their minorities and came up short, and then they decided to do something about it. They basicly mentioned how many minorities were expected if they were choses by merit at random, it was mentioned and put into goals, the goals are part of advancement, and it was accomplished.

I think the results were great. I'm not sure if they hit all the goals, the targets, the quotas, or whatever you want to call them, but they have good people in place of all races and nobody that I saw was complaining. ( I don't know the senior-senior management).

The real question is whether you actually believe that the different races are statisticly equal and if you have a bone in your ass about working for a minority manager.

Maybe it doesn't work as well with ignorant people, I dont' know, I haven't worked at that level for a while.
