How can you tell people to revolt while promising aid and then let them rot. Good question. I found GHWB's behavour appalling. It's not the first time the US has done it though. I've read the Hungarians were promised aid before the 1956 revolt. I have not seen what I would consider good evidence of the claim, though. The Cuban invaders at Bay of Pigs were promised US air cover. JFK cancelled it, but let the invasion go ahead to certain defeat. The word is out on the street about this. Now we are no longer believed when we promise aid and protection.
