The whole damn thing is ludicrous. Completely political crap designed to embarrass Bush.
Although I can't say so to the certainty John adopts here when spouting off about crimes being committed, it surely does appear that Plame did not reside out of the US within the last five years of the disclosure, as required by the statute.
Moreover, if what Novak says is true, and I have no reason to doubt him, the "United States" had already disclosed her relationship to the CIA, another specific defense to the crime.
I predict that the (Ashcroft) Justice Department or a Special Counsel will reach those exact conclusions. Of course, the cries that there has been a coverup will resound loudly and clearly.
It makes me ill.
What would the great ones, Madison, Hamilton, Jefferson, Franklin, DeTocqueville, et al, say if they were given a glimpse of the state of our nation? I suspect they'd think we've gone totally insane. |
