Thanks for the kind thoughts Karen.
Cochlear Implant surgery is not a minor procedure and could certainly lead to pain medication addiction.
The main goals of the surgery are to anchor the receiver-stimulator package in the temporal bone in the skull and to insert the electrode array into the cochlea. This is done by first raising the skin from the skull behind the ear to expose the temporal bone. The surgeon is then able to position the implant package flat against the bone. Next, a hole is drilled in the temporal bone, allowing the surgeon access to the cochlea. A small hole is made in the wall of the cochlea, and the electrode array is gently guided into the shell-like cochlea. Once the array is fixed in place, the wound is closed. The cochlear implant procedure typically takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. The hospital stay is normally 3 or 4 days.

Rush Limbaugh is a hero to millions of Americans. His message hasn't changed, his desire for what is best for America isn't different, and his patriotism is intact. All of America owes him a measure of gratitude for making it Ok to question our politicians and to publicly disagree. That there are alternative pov that demand to be heard, and that pointing out distortions on the truth is part of that process. No wonder he is so vehemently hated in some circles.
Sadly for all of us, I have a hunch that if this were say.......Dan Rather....... it would receive a much more sympathetic review through the media.
As for my brother in law........He had surgery in 1999 and the lower lobe of his left lung was removed. The medical report said that the lower left portion of his heart was completely obscured also. His disease has slowly been progressing over a number of years, but thankfully he still manages to live a relatively normal life. It was the pain from the disease that led to his Oxycotin addiction, which ironically turned out to be worse than the disease. The medication caused him severe nausea, vomiting, lethargy, migraine headaches and abdominal cramping, and almost killed him. He was eventually diagnosed as being addicted to Oxycotin which led to his rehabilitation. He has been much better since quitting the drug.
But my main point is that addiction to pain medications is a serious and debilitating condition that deserves to be looked at in a respectful and compassionate manner regardless of who it is that suffers. After all........it could happen to anyone.
The glee demonstrated by the left regarding Rush Limbaugh's current problems is not unexpected. In fact they probably did themselves a disservice if they produced this smear campaign and are behind the exposure. Eventually these drugs would have killed Limbaugh and they'd be rid of their worst "enemy."
I'm sure he will be back tomorrow and gracefully address these issues head on.
I did a quick google search and found this to be a very good source of information about asbestosis. As you can see; it's a deadly disease.
