Cochlear Implant surgery is not a minor procedure and could certainly lead to pain medication addiction.

It's not a minor procedure, but if it leads to pain medication addiction, the surgeon likely did something wrong or there was some pre-existing condition that caused the difficulty. Like I said, my husband has two CIs and he is not "conscious" of them at all. After the incision healed, he had no more pain.

The hospital stay is normally 3 or 4 days.

Not in my InsuranceLand. :-) Overnight stay, that's all, and we know a friend who is having a CI this month and they will discharge him the same day. However, they are staying overnight at a hotel down the street in case he suffers any ill effects from the anesthesia (he has respiratory problems).
