LOS ANGELES — The latest statewide poll in California's recall election shows Gov. Gray Davis (search) trailing by 18 points and Arnold Schwarzenegger (search) leading Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (search) by 10 points, Democratic and Republican strategists told Fox News.

The Field Poll (search) results, which will appear in newspapers across the state Friday, show 57 percent supporting the recall and 39 percent opposing it.

These numbers were gathered prior to Thursday's major development in which the Los Angeles Times ran a story revealing allegations by six women accusing the Republican action star of groping them on movie sets and in other settings over the last three decades.

Saying he has changed his ways, Schwarzenegger apologized Thursday for offending any women who claim he had sexually harassed them.

"I have offended people, and to those people who I have offended I am deeply sorry about that and I apologize because that is not what I tried to do," Schwarzenegger said in a rally in San Diego.

The latest Field Poll shows Schwarzenegger leading Bustamante 36 percent to 26 percent. Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock runs third with 15 percent.

The last Field Poll, taken in early September, showed 55 percent supporting the recall and 40 percent opposing it.

The previous Field Poll showed Bustamante leading Schwarzenegger 30 percent to 25 percent with McClintock at 18 percent.
