"Civilization" is a legally registered trademark of Microprose/SBYT, whereas "Advanced Civilization" is a registered trademark of Avalon-Hill.

Further, the "Civilization" card game by Avalon-Hill was published some time ago by Avalon-Hill as a PC game, but never sold well....Here's a link to that title (scroll down a bit):

avalonhill.com

So, Activision bought rights to the above title and subsequent versions from Avalon-Hill. However, the name "Advanced Civilization" by itself isn't going to generate sales. It is the quality of software that counts, not just the name you stick on the box...

Now, Individual Investor came up with "Activision bought rights to Civilization", but incorrectly related this to the PC title owned by Microprose, rather than the title by Avalon-Hill. And somehow Activision related the Avalon-Hill trademark and product to Sid Meir, even though he never had anything to do with it.

Individual Investor Magazine should print a correction. But then again, I bet they wish they could print a lot of corrections concerning stocks like Informix (IFMX) which they suggested buying right before it crashed.
