Well, that's one of the issues that has periodically resurfaced where Western states - ostensibly more likely to be 'Libertarian-minded' - are concerned. Because much of that land was effectively seized by Federal law and is presided over by massive (what other kind is there?) governmental bureaucracies...and, it bears saying, because there is no Constitutionally guaranteed right or entitlement to hiking, camping, etc...many of us see them as a prime target for political disintermediation.

Perhaps they might be sold (or, taking into account the nature in which they came under Federal control, offered for some other consideration) to the states within which they are located, who would in turn decide what (if anything) might be done with them. I have no doubt that many would remain as they are, while others would be sold or leased in part or whole to private individuals and corporate interests.
