But before you unilaterally pick and choose the meaning of "great" out of a list of 16 potential definitions from the dictionary, I will tell you exactly which particular definition I was using.

6. Of outstanding significance or importance

Its sad and I'm not saying you are one of these people, but you would be astonished at how many people out there think the work "great" has a positive connotation in all situations. There are also people out there that think the work "niggardly" is a racial slur. It really means:

1. Grudging and petty in giving or spending.
2. Meanly small; scanty or meager:
