Funny you should say that. While I'm watching the local news as I eat lunch, during the ads I sometimes flip over the The People's Court. It's a riot. Except that people actually start to think this is the way courts and judges really work, which is both sad and scary.

Judge Wapner, who started this, was actually a very good judge and gave very accurate rulings. While I was in law school we would sometimes watch him and we never caught him in a legal error. But this new crop are showpeople, not judges. I guess there's a bunch on now, each one more flamboyant than the next, playuing to the audience and with the audience laughing at the "judge"'s remarks. Catch that happening in a real courtroom!

When the law becomes entertainment, what more can we expect? Lions in the pit of the courtroom?

Sigh.
