re: You having lived it, are an expert of Russian history.
you are giving me way too much credit. I estimated the 25 mil number from using the following:
1) Stalin caused the death of 20 million people
2) Lenin, while not better than Stalin, manage only a fraction of what Stalin did because he did not have as much time. I know of Lenin's red terror and other bloody inventions but I have never seen actual numbers for Lenin.
3) Stalin numbers are between 18 and 20 mil and educated guess for Lenin would be few million => ~25 million or less

re: The 25 million vs 50 million argument is meaningless to me because both statistics are so large...they are beyond comprehension.

I agree completely

re: Stalin is OK because he only purged 25 million.

not at all, we were comparing Stalin to Hitler. Both Stalin and Hitler are monsters. Hitler though did some things that moved him ahead on a monstrocity scale

re: The deliberate part makes it pretty direct to me.

to me too, I would never defend Stalin. Again, it was a comparison with what Hitler had done.

re: I don't accept that starving kids to death is preferable to a shot in the head...the usual Russian method.

no arguments here.

Karen suggested the Russians did not keep records. They did. Too bad the KGB destroyed them.

that I do not know
